Ethics and Integrity

The Ethics Committee of the Stefan S. Nicolau Institute of Virology, Bucharest, is dedicated to supporting and promoting the Institute’s commitment to strengthening a culture of ethics and research integrity in biomedical science.

The Committee operates based on the appointment decision issued by the Director of the Institute, validated by the governing administrative structures, and functions in accordance with applicable national legislation, as well as the Institute’s internal regulatory framework (Code of Ethics and internal regulations).

The Ethics Committee has the following responsibilities:

  • contributes to the development and continuous improvement of the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, which is submitted for approval to the governing body of the Institute;
  • investigates and resolves cases of breaches of research and professional ethics, based on complaints or self-referral, in accordance with the Code of Ethics and applicable regulations;
  • prepares an annual report on compliance with research integrity and ethical standards in biomedical research, which is submitted to the Institute’s Director and governing body and made publicly available;
  • performs any other duties established by applicable legislation.

Any individual, from within or outside the Institute, may submit complaints regarding alleged ethical misconduct by members of the scientific community. Anonymous complaints are not considered. Complaints must be submitted to the Registry Office of the Stefan S. Nicolau Institute of Virology, Bucharest, addressed to the Ethics Committee, Mihai Bravu Ave 285, Sector 3, 030304, Bucharest, Romania.
