(2004 -2006; VIASAN 343) – Principal investigator: Mihaela Economescu (Chivu) PhD

Funding: 25000 Euro

Collaborator: Clinic Hospital Dr. I. Cantacuzino, Bucharest, Romania

Activities:

Phase I – Analysis of protocols for the separation of hematopoietic stem cells to enhance their performance.

Phase II – Evaluation of the impact of maternal variables on prenatal pathology.

Phase III – Optimization of culture systems for hematopoietic stem cells while maintaining self-regeneration and differentiation properties.

Phase IV – Determination of the susceptibility of hematopoietic stem cells to viral infections and their capacity to sustain viral replication.

Phase V – In vitro testing of the effects of antitumor and antiviral drugs on hematopoiesis.
